Hello. I’m Charlie. I’ve made music since I was fourteen, and for the last ten years I’ve built tools for other people: film interfaces, pipelines, an art platform, DSP written from scratch in Rust. snails.fm is where the two meet: my music and my tools.
The label started inside client work. I built a compressor I actually use, then a denoiser, then a tape effect for a friend that was too good to keep private. The pattern was obvious: build the thing you’d reach for, ship it, let the weird stuff follow.
A tool should do one job and do it well. It shouldn’t implant an aesthetic onto someone else’s art. You should own it outright, and you should be allowed to break it: the best musical inventions come from tools pushed past what they were built for.
